We completed a fun outdoor doodle mural for Shake Shack in a Chicago suburb. Our mural artists painted one full scene that wrapped around the outside corner utilizing two brick walls on the restaurant’s exterior.
What is the Shake Shack? Shake Shack is a modern-day “roadside” burger stand serving a classic American menu of premium burgers, hot dogs, crinkle-cut fries, shakes, frozen custard, beer, and wine. With its fresh and simple, high-quality food at a great value, Shake Shack is a fun and lively community-gathering place with widespread appeal. In our design for their outdoor doodle mural, our goal was to capture all of these values.
Restaurant Mural Design Process
Since murals and their stores typically have a common theme of incorporating local landmarks and culture into the piece. This graffiti mural depicts Chicago landmarks and local nods known to north Chicago in a playful, funky design.
Our creative process started with painting the dark background to make the lighter green Chicago skyline. Then, we added in various features significant to Chicago. Features such as street signs, buildings, music figures, and sports figures like a bull for the National Basketball League’s Chicago Bulls. These city-specific features were painted in a couple of different shades of green.
The medium we used was spraypaint. We worked with a limited color palette influenced by the Shake Shack branded green. This monochrome design features multiple shades of greens.
