Ford recently realized they needed some Detroit graffiti artists to make their latest vision a reality. Therefore, plans arose to transform the long-abandoned Michigan Central Station into the Silicon Valley of the Midwest for autonomous driving!
For their big announcement on June 19, 2018, we gathered a group of artists to create live art as the attendees arrived. “Ford threw a Detroit homecoming party at 11 a.m. to celebrate its purchase of the iconic Michigan Central Station on the western edge of Corktown. More than 5,000 people signed up”. (Source: Detroit Free Press)
So, we curated artists with strong Detroit graffiti roots. Some of them, as young bucks, may have actually painted the interior of the iconic abandoned building! The artists were extremely excited to create pieces with phrases like “Bringing Detroit Back” and “Welcome Home,” therefore giving their art an extra meaning.
Special thanks to Ford for supporting the local art community with this project. Some of the artists we featured have family who have worked at Ford plants in the past. Many of these artists even based their characters on vintage Ford vehicles!
